During the development of bullous peg (stages 5–8), the hair bulb and the main cell layers of the mature hair follicle are also formed [2–4, 6]. Hair grows and is eventually shed and replaced by new hair. The first is the anagen phase, during which cells divide rapidly at the root of the hair, pushing the hair shaft up and out. The rest of the hair, which is anchored in the follicle, lies below the surface of the skin and is referred to as the hair root.
